#3Blog2Me - ...about the courage to let go
March 18, 2022

Never get angry with your horse. You might as well get angry with your reflection in the mirror. Rudolf C. Binding

"If someone gives you something, take it; if someone takes something from you, scream!", a friend once said to me.

That's basically true.
But in my opinion it's not quite that simple. Why?
I think it has something to do with the fact that I left home when I was 17 and have been standing on my own two feet ever since.
Everything I am and have, I have worked for myself.

At that time I was...

moved out with nothing but a mattress, a mug and a rickety box. Unfortunately, the box could not be rebuilt.
Why did I move out?
The answer is: "...to let go of what is not good for me."
Looking back, I think that was pretty brave.
But I just did it. I followed this need.
And things went quite well. I lived modestly, but in peace and freedom. - For now.

"Live and let live" was my motto back then, but it soon became clear that this doesn't work that easily anywhere.
Because the more you let others (to express tolerance, understanding and/or love), the less they let you!
WHY IS THIS SO?
There is a saying: Do not do to others what you do not want done to you!?

It's about control.
It's about power!
Power offers the opportunity to control others in order to achieve one's own goals.
This type of aggression also makes it possible, for example, to hide one's own inability or to reduce one's own efforts.
I find the statement by body language expert Stefan Verra in #Talk2Me Podcast Interview #104 particularly interesting; he says:
"The reason for the 'will to power' is that people (especially politicians) have an incredible need for attention and recognition."

Might!

And how do you gain POWER over others?
TAKE AWAY their freedom and also GIVE THEM something that makes them dependent on you and/or creates trust.
These can be material things as well as immaterial things, such as the prospect of peace, friendship, belonging, etc.

I think this can be demonstrated particularly well using the example of bullying:
If you - for whatever reason - do not fit into the group/ are not mainstream -
you will be laughed at at first.
If that doesn't help, you will be ignored.
If you still don’t adapt, you will be attacked.
- Until you can't anymore!

- Or, you just sit it out!
If my grandfather ANTON HEINRICH SCHÜTZE gave me something for my life, it is:
"You only give up after a letter!" ;-)

For me that means showing strength of character!
Stand up for MYSELF/my joy of life!
Because EVERYONE has the right to feel good! (I learned this at an ORF seminar ;-))

Unfortunately, sometimes we are caught up in such a whirlpool of worries and fears that we no longer know how wonderful it feels to enjoy life
and B only fight/function to avoid drowning;
Instead of saying STOP, pause and reflect. Because that also takes so much energy.

Stop!

My horse TELLS me exactly that: "STOP!"
And sometimes I get angry with myself because I actually know better!?
But then I pull myself together and am brave - because I understand: IT WON'T GET BETTER THIS WAY!

• So I push my fears aside/let them go,
• gather myself in the here and now,
• then breathe consciously
• and give him what he needs to please ME
: a relaxed TOGETHERNESS through consideration
   of BOTH our needs.

And lo and behold:
it harmonizes. Everything runs like clockwork!
He snorts and gallops contentedly around.
THIS is what FREEDOM feels like!
It´s easy to give in to your fear...
